Here are some thoughts based on the positive phrases mentioned above to help you build confidence in yourself.

Don’t let fear control you
This is a key. Lack of confidence stems from fear. To turn it around, we need to understand that it’s ok to be afraid. You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t feel fear. You would be dead! As the world’s No. 1 success coach Anthony Robbins says, FEAR stands for ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’. Fear, he explains, is not a signal to avoid action. Instead, he says, fear is a signal to prepare yourself well to take the action.

For example, if you have a fear of public speaking, take classes in public speaking. Learn the tools, techniques and tips to do it. Preparation will go a long way to diluting a big part of your fear.

Failure is the key to success
Society has trained us to fear failure. We dread failing exams because we think it means we’re stupid. Yet, without failure, how can we learn? Didn’t you learn the most valuable lessons from your failures, rather than only when you got it right? Real life is about making mistakes until you learn.
Be different
Why be a copy of everyone else? Each one of us is different and we all have special contributions to make to our families, society and our careers. Being assertive gives you power and gets you noticed. Look around you at the people who have achieved great things in life. Do they achieve because they fit in, or because they stepped out? Of course, as it is often said, an army needs soldiers as well as generals: not everyone is meant to be a leader. But that doesn’t mean you have to be a follower all the time, with no ideas of your own!
Reach for the stars
Why settle for the level ground when you can reach for the stars? What does your body do when you imagine reaching for the stars? Your head moves UP, your body stands STRAIGHT, you BREATHE DEEPLY, and hey, you probably have a BIG SMILE on your face! Just thinking about it makes you feel good. You can’t play small and feel fear when your body is upright! Reaching for the stars gives you confidence to do your best. How did great people ever achieve great things? They did it because they reached for the best within themselves. They didn’t settle for average.
Be proud of who you are
What is there to stop you from being proud of who you are? Are you too short, too tall, too fat, disorganised, terrible with numbers, afraid to speak in public? So what? Millions of people are. Have you recently seen anyone who’s perfect? Everyone – no matter how pretty, handsome, smart or rich – has something about themselves they don’t like. This may sound like a cliché, but it’s who you are inside that really counts. Make a list of the things you think you’re pretty good at. Make a list of your physical attributes that you kind of like. You’re not that bad at all. Another great exercise is to ask a family member to tell you or to write down what they see as your positive attributes. Trust me, you’ll be amazed! As they say, when you see a cup with some 50% water inside, you can say it is half empty, or half full. Are you being optimistic/positive or pessimistic/ negative?
Imagination is more important than knowledge
This is a saying by the scientist Albert Einstein, and it’s very true. More so in today’s world. We have information overload. But there is a lack of imagination and creativity. Anyone can find knowledge. But imagination is magical. It’s about letting your mind dream up new ways of doing things. It’s thinking about new possibilities. Surprising but true: Everyone has an imagination. You imagine what it would be like to fall in love. You imagine what it would be like to have the perfect job. You imagine what it would be like to have a lot of money. See, you do it all the time! You just need to give it a chance to make its presence felt more often.
